Asahiyaki will share the story of
osaa, its new tableware collection presented at 3daysofdesign in 2026.
Continuing to Make Tradition
— Considering the Future of Tradition through Asahiyaki’s osaa
For more than 400 years, Asahiyaki has continued to make pottery in Uji, Kyoto.
While inheriting this tradition,
osaa is a new tableware collection born from dialogue with the Finnish design unit
Kaksikko and chefs from Japan, Finland, and Denmark.
Is tradition simply something to be preserved?
Perhaps creating new forms of expression and value through encounters with different cultures and perspectives is also one way to carry culture into the future.
As part of the Tomorrow’s Kyoto Cultural Heritage Platform’s
Kotsukotsu! Doorway to Culture programme, we will present an exhibition and two talk sessions using osaa as a practical example through which to consider these questions.
